Tattoo Aftercare
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your new tattoo.
Gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap twice a day.
Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or cloth. Do not rub or scrub.
Apply a thin layer of ointment to your tattoo, such as Aquaphor or A+D ointment. Avoid using petroleum jelly, as it can trap bacteria.
Keep your tattoo covered with a clean bandage or gauze for the first 24-48 hours. After that, you can leave your tattoo uncovered to allow it to breathe.
Avoid soaking your tattoo in water for at least 2 weeks. This includes swimming, bathing, and hot tubs.
Avoid wearing tight clothing over your tattoo, as it can irritate the skin and prevent healing.
Do not pick or scratch your tattoo. This can damage the skin and lead to infection.
Here are some additional tips:
Take cool showers instead of hot baths.
Apply sunscreen to your tattoo with an SPF of 30 or higher whenever you go outside.
Avoid getting your tattoo overexposed to the sun.
Eat a healthy diet and get enough sleep to promote healing.
If you notice any signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or discharge, contact your doctor immediately.
